Installing binary packages

Verify a download, unpack its files, and use compatible interpreter and editor versions.

An Aner package contains a native executable, included modules, examples, and notices. Some packages also include the VS Code extension. Choose a package from Downloads that matches your operating system and architecture; follow Install Aner for extraction and PATH setup.

Public binary releases are being prepared. A target without a published download is not available to install from the website. These instructions also apply to a preview archive you have received with its checksum information.

Verify the download

From the folder containing the downloaded archive, calculate its SHA-256 and compare the complete value with the checksum shown for that download. Replace ARCHIVE.tar.gz or ARCHIVE.zip with the exact downloaded filename.

On Linux:

sh
sha256sum ARCHIVE.tar.gz

On macOS:

sh
shasum -a 256 ARCHIVE.tar.gz

On Windows, use PowerShell:

powershell
Get-FileHash .\ARCHIVE.zip -Algorithm SHA256

If your package also supplies a .sha256 file, keep it beside the archive. You can check it automatically using sha256sum -c ARCHIVE.tar.gz.sha256 on Linux or shasum -a 256 -c ARCHIVE.tar.gz.sha256 on macOS. Continue when the named archive reports OK.

A matching checksum confirms the bytes match the stated archive. Release notes identify signing or notarization separately. If the hash does not match, download the file again before running it.

Keep the package together

Extract into a new empty folder. Preserve the included notices and dataset attribution. Do not merge a new version into an older installation: keeping versions separate makes it easy to choose which one a project uses.

The bin folder contains the executable. The examples folder contains Aner programs; open the package root when running commands that start with examples/. If an editor folder is included, it contains the VSIX for VS Code. Some packages include installation smoke checks; follow that package's README to run them when diagnosing an installation.

Iris and Wine teaching data are embedded in the native executable and need no online dataset download. Your own CSV inputs remain separate files. Each package's notices distinguish the software license from the third party dataset licenses.

Confirm execution

After completing the installation and PATH setup:

sh
aner --version
aner run examples/neural_xor.aner

Run the second command from the extracted package root. It trains the small synthetic XOR network using the CPU. See Neural networks for the model and visual training reports for inspecting its training steps.

Choose versions together

Use the native executable and editor extension versions recommended by the release. Updating a VSIX does not update the interpreter. The built in data, tensor, metrics, and machine learning modules are included with that interpreter version and currently do not have separate installation commands.

Release availability, minimum OS versions, package hashes, and compatibility notes belong to the selected download. Installing a package does not add GPU execution, a third party package registry, or other features identified as future work.
